Clear Springs SCUBA Park Sepember 15, 2001
Located just outside of Terrell, Texas, Clear Springs SCUBA Park is a dive site that every diver should get around to experiencing! Although it is still lacking in amenities, it more than makes up for it in it's dive environment. Clear Springs is a 22 acre spring fed lake that boasts great visibilty a vast array of plant and marine life. It was these two claims that took me to Clear Springs to see for myself. When I arrived, I was welcomed by this beautiful lake out in the middle of nowhere! Myself and the group that I was with made three dives and the general consensus was the same: this place has a heckuva lot of potential! Dive info: Max depth recorded: 57 ft Minimum temperature: 64 degrees at 57 ft Fish life: Numerous perch, large (!) catfish and bass were spotted Wrecks: None were found Comments: It's neat to go around the perimeter and dive the wall of the lake and check out the fish life. Overall rating: On this day, I gave it 3 (possible 5)
We have been doing Athens all summer. This is usually where we do open water training so we are familiar with it. On this day (mid-70's and slight breeze) we had about 12 feet visibility. If you are not familiar with Athens, I'll let you know that the visibility has been off the past few weeks (due to rain mostly). They can usually boast of viz around 40-50 feet! I have personally seen, and measured it at 80 feet! Athens is a clay quarry, so viz can be phenomenal for a fresh water dive site. Dive info: Max depth recorded: 24 feet Min. temp: 79 degrees Fish life: none Wrecks: 33 submerged wrecks From Leer Jet to houseboat to cabin cruiser to VW beetle Comments: It's a good open water and entry level dive site but don't expect fish life or any depth over 30 feet or so. Overall rating: On this day I gave it a 3
